Avtandil Kenchadze (79 kg) won the gold medal at the World Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Tirana and became the champion of Georgia after a 5-year hiatus.
Kenchadze defeated Ibrahim Yaprak (Turkey) 11:0, Kota Takahashi (Japan) 12:1, Daulet Ergesh (Kazakhstan) 10:0 and Mohammad Nokhodilarim (Iran) 14:5 before reaching the final, before defeating Magomed Magomayev (Russia) 13:4 in the decisive match.
Mirian Maisuradze (92 kg) won the silver medal. Due to the Olympics, the World Championship was held in only four non-Olympic weight categories, and the Georgian team took first place in the team standings.
