According to the National Statistics Service of Georgia, the nationwide population and agricultural census, which is conducted every 10 years, began on November 14. The data collection process will continue until December 19.

The description will be carried out in two stages:

  • In the first stage, from November 14 to November 23, data will be collected using the self-registration method (CAWI). During self-registration, respondents independently, without interviewers, fill out the questionnaires electronically via a computer/tablet/smartphone, using a standard Internet browser, at a time and place convenient for them. This method is convenient for respondents who do not want to visit the interviewer's home and/or do not have enough time for a face-to-face interview.

To complete the electronic questionnaire, those wishing to do so must complete a simple registration on a special web platform created by Geostat, which is located on the Geostat website. After completing the electronic questionnaire, respondents will receive a special code, which they must present to the Geostat interviewer who visits them.

  • In the second stage, from November 29 to December 19 inclusive, data will be collected by up to 12,000 Geostat interviewers, door-to-door, using tablet computers. An agricultural census will be conducted simultaneously with the population census. Along with social and demographic data, information will be collected on the agricultural activity of households, the structure of land used by households, livestock and poultry numbers, as well as other important information at the level of municipalities, territorial units and villages through a special questionnaire.

According to Geostat, all citizens of Georgia, as well as all foreign citizens residing in the territory of Georgia (who plan to stay in Georgia for more than 12 months) and stateless persons (who plan to stay in Georgia for more than 12 months) are obliged to undergo a census. In accordance with Articles 34 and 35 of the Law of Georgia on Official Statistics, individual data are confidential and are not subject to disclosure. Individual data about the respondent are stored in accordance with the procedure established by the current legislation of Georgia. The census will provide the latest information on the size of the population, their gender and age structure, employment, education, health status, livelihoods and housing. Also, through the agricultural component, data on the agricultural activity of households will be collected. Preliminary results of the census will be published in June 2025, and
Final – in June 2026.
